Typically, the inside of a tooth is protected by its hard exterior. When that exterior is damaged through injury or decay, bacteria can enter the inside of the tooth and cause a painful infection. Typically, dentists weigh two treatment options when deep root canal infections occur: root canal vs. extraction. If the tooth root and some dental structures can be saved, root canal therapy is the less invasive option.

Root canal treatment is used to treat a tooth with an internal infection. During the root canal procedure, we carefully remove the pulp inside the tooth, then clean, disinfect and shape the root canals. After the treatment, a flexible, rubbery material fills the empty canals, and a temporary filling reseals the tooth until we can place a final restoration.

When a custom-made dental crown returns from our dental laboratory, we fit and permanently place it to protect the tooth from further damage.
